Did I read that correctly? Aspen is clear? When did that happen?

It was all clear when we got there on Saturday afternoon. There's still the one log down on Sammie, CDO is clear sailing and a must do now. The bottom two miles of Red Ridge only has a couple of trees down low but the Cat Claw has gotten fierce. Oracle Ridge is completely clear and we worked another .25 miles of Sammie up hill from the spring.

There are at least three (3) downed trees on Crystal Spring Trail we couldn't move. One very large, one smaller(maybe could have but ran out of time), and a couple in-between. There are also a number of dead trees still standing & adjacent to the trail that could be cut out as well but otherwise it should be in good shape going forward with minimal effort...

There's a tree down in the Green Bugs connector. It's right by the rock pinch.

This would be something cool to celebrate at end of year. The total of removed down trees and trail distance maintained and repaired.

"Secret" trail referenced above is not secret, for the most part. Very Happy It's a fun trail to ride.

This is one of the non-system trails in the Coronado that bikers & hikers have fun on.

There are many non-system trails in the Coronado that the FS knows about, and seemingly in a "don't ask, don't tell" state. The Forest Service spends no time, money or man power to maintain non-system trails. Mountain bikers including the good folks at SDMB, help keep these trails in good shape.

Other non-system trails in the Coronado include Milagrosa & most of the Upper 50 system (the 50Yr Trail on State Trust Land is "official", when you cross the barb wire fence, you're in Forest Service land, and this is where I'm talking about).

Thanks for asking about it - I hope I answered your question.

There's a tree across the Aspen Meadow Trail I guess 18-20" diameter. Definitely a chainsaw tree.

Would FS hang me for cutting it myself?

Yup. They get touchy about folks using chainsaws in their forest.

You have to have taken their sawyer class to be allowed to use a chain saw on FS land.

There's a bunch more down on lower Butterfly as well.

Hey Tiny, if you spit into the urinal while relieving your bladder, you're just letting all the other guys know you have the clearance.

Also a tree down on secret. Laying across the big swooping left bank turn.

Moved one on 1918.

Also told a fs guy that a group of campers were up on bigelow chainsawing away he didn't seem to care and said he would pass along the info. Seems some mtbers way back in the woods using one would be even lower on their list of priorities.
