With the rain, the 50 had become nearly impassable in some areas. Add the vesicant-bearing ants falling on my neck from the mesquite branches, that precipitated some trail brushing work. MaryEllen and I started a couple of weeks ago and have completed several sections. Some days were spent fully dedicated to trail work, while other days I just carried a lopper and saw.

From the Miraval gate up the ridge, to the top of The Chutes was done two weeks ago. We also started working south on the immediate section of the trail at that time, getting to the 'Saguaro S'/SDMB reroute section of several years ago.

At this time, we have completed the southern section to the last small drainage crossing preceding the small hill to the Forest Service Road junction. MOST large stubs have been sawed, small ones lopped. Brush was pruned to promote natural growth and to deter hedging. Sight lines were reopened in many areas.

On the section south of Golder Ranch Road/PArking Area, we've completed from Rollins Road approx.75miles to the first carsonite sign. Also, some of the most aggregious areas were trimmed intermitently along the trail.

The 'LOP & DROP' method on some areas near the state park was not our work.

Two loppers and one folding saw met their demise in this endeavor. More work will have to wait until tool replacement.

Hey CJ- Thanks for all the work! You guys put in a lot of hours to keep the trails up there in good shape, and everyone appreciates it. Shoot me an email and we can talk about tool replacement. I think you have my personal email, but if not reach out via trailsteward@sdmb.org and we will figure something out. We want to support you in any way we can.

Cheers- Evan

Thanks for the offer, i will DEFINITELY be contacting you. We are happy to give to our community and the area we ride.

MaryEllen made me promise to stop for a few days and let my body rest, so I won't be doing more work until Wednesday or Thursday. Help would be gladly accepted from others, come and teach or come and learn. I will be riding today, assessing some more areas for future brushing consideration.

Thank you! Upper 50 is in pretty rough shape. Loads of cholla issues up there more than anything. Some branching tree problems but not too terrible.

Gem doesn't seem too bad.

Martha delivered tools last night! Thanks so much!

Today, we will be using the hand bypass pruners to fix an area newly stubbed by a well-intended trail volunteer.

Some more real trimming will resume next week. A lot of stubbing was done over the last couple of days and we want to fix that before moving onto any other area.

Once again, thanks SDMB for the support & help with the tools!

We fixed the aforementioned spot on Saturday.

For the next couple of rides, a lopper, bypass pruner and saw will be carried and some of the stubbed areas (heading south towards the state park border) will get fixed.

Come teach or come learn…
