Since this question has been asked so often, I figured I'd try to compile a listing of where to rent bikes in Tucson.

I have NO affiliation with any shop, nor will I promote any rental place over another. Consider this just a starting point for people looking to rent. Call each dealer to find out more info about models, sizes and rates.

I'll be happy to update the post to keep it as accurate as possible.

Will-Lee,
Thanks for the list.
I've been looking at the SDMB maps online -- do any of the bike shops sell maps? Is there a resource you recommend? I've read through the introduction section of the forum and haven't seen this topic mentioned (my apologies if I missed it). Or, are the most popular trails well-marked? My husband and I will be visiting my sister in Tucson over the holidays. We live in Santa Fe and the trails here are, for the most part, poorly marked. We're both competent riders and are looking forward to enjoying some of your warmth and sunshine! paula Razz

SW Trekking recently produced a bunch of hand-held, old school paper maps & has them at various shops. ABE is one of them, 520-881-2279, or you can call John at SW T, 520-296-9661.

The trails in any Pima County Park system are decently marked (Tucson Mountain Park (@Starr Pass) & Sweetwater, in particular. Fantasy Island is decently marked & Mt. Lemmon trails are decent. When you go to 50yr, you'll for sure need a "guide" to show you the fun stuff.

Thanks so much MLEMEN! I'll call ABE. Is anyone laying GPS tracks of some of the trails?
(I love the "training wheels" designation!)

If you are going to be here over the holidays check out the 8ish days of Christmas thread in the MTB Rides forum. It is about 8 posts down from the top at the moment. If you can participate that would give you the opportunity to ride with some of the locals.

Does anyone know if any of those places rent extra smalls? I have a friend who is 5 feet tall and wants to learn to ride a bike.

I know a great little service. Go to BikeTucsonAZ.com. They run a totally mobile bike rental delivery service, serving Green Valley and Tucson. I took a group from Wisconsin and they had a brand new line of Trek and Specialized mountain and road bikes. I think this is the only mobile service in town.

Selection can always vary from shop to shop. The bike shops in Tucson are really strong.

Visiting from Austin. Having difficulty finding a rental on a solid mid-range hardtail mtb. I'm finding a $35/day hybrid at RoadRunner.

Then Performance said $85/day.

Pro Bike says "starting at $65/day" without pedals. (I want flats anyway). ... so I guess it'll be more than that....

I'm used to renting DH bikes in Colorado. But surely a regular trail bike doesn't get as much abuse to justify the high price?
