Was up Javelina again, and I keep seeing long skids into turns. Most every one had a 10' or longer skidmark going into them.

I don't know about the rest of youse, but I was always taught that skidding was sometimes unavoidable, but best to try not to do. The reasons for this are obvious when you see the results: The skids will rip up the trail bed, loosening rocks that often hold things together when it rains. It also destroys the surface, throwing up loose shit that makes other people climbing struggle for grip. Not only that but it becomes an eyesore as it widens the trail corners.

To those of you that think this is somehow OK, I suggest you go back to your childhood dreams on your Raleigh Choppers, cos that seems to be where you're most at home. It shows that you are at best a mediocre rider, and maybe need to brush up on some skills. Skids are unavoidable at times, but to do this into every turn is simply stupid.

Rant over!

Oh, forgot to add, it scares the turtles... I mean TORTOISES!!!

I'm skidding real hard. And it's awesome. And the hikers think it's awesome. And it feels awesome.

I'll take the mediocre rider statement as a compliment.

Pretty moronic of you... care to come up some time and help repair some of your damage?

Edit... sorry, just dawned on me! Mediocre rider/mediocre sense of humor... duh! LOL

I wont be doing anything til my taxes are in and the projects I am working on elsewhere are put to bed, but hopefully later next week. We can walk up and I can show you first hand and up close exactly what is happening to the trail bed. In the meantime you can help by not doing it, if you would be so kind! I know that crowds of hikers may be disappointed, but Im sure they'll get over it...

Fair compromise. if you're gonna skid, show up to throw some dirt. Skidding ain't faster, that's a fact.

...Jack...

I was up there again this morning and replaced rocks on about a dozen turns and drops that had been torn out of the sides and from some features, then left right in the middle of the trail. A bit silly...
