Caliente, Nevada, 150 miles north of Vegas and 100 west of Cedar City, UT. This town has decided to bill itself as a new MTB destination at 4400'. Surrounding mountains are over 7000' and one is close to 9400'. Building started last year so in 1 or 2 will be sweet.
Cedar City has plenty of variety to add to the trip with pretty and mild 3 Peaks Trail, beautiful Navajo Lake and the tough Virgin River Rim Trail to the east. Brianhead's descent (11301') nearby and Gooseberry is right on the way.
Another place that has begun building multi use trail is the Palisade Plunge Trail off beautiful Grand Mesa in western Colorado. 6000' descents from near 11000' to the town of Palisade by I-70. Near Powderhorn Ski.
Mosquitoes are nasty on the mesa as there are over 300 lakes. The West Bench Trail I rode there started by crossing a beaver dam. |
